The British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC), seeking an enhancement of its retail sportsbook operations, has signed a three-year contract with Intralot’s North American subsidiary.
Intralot Inc will deliver its Orion sports betting platform, including the Photon X retail terminals and GameStation self-service terminals, to the provincial lottery under the terms of the deal, which includes an option for three annual extensions.
Also included is the firm’s BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) solution, in which players can view a full betting offering, paper digital betslips and generate a QR code, which can be scanned at retail terminals.
Nikos Nikolakopoulos, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Intralot, Inc. said: “We are excited to extend our partnership with BCLC in the sports betting sector.
“We are looking forward to a close cooperation with the Lottery in order to provide an enhanced retail player experience and responsibly drive the Lottery’s growth to further benefit the British Columbia community.”
Intralot plans to launch the Photon X and GameStation terminals in BC this winter, with its total sports betting solution slated to deploy across 700 self-service terminals and 3,400 clerk operated terminals across the province.
The BCLC has been offering single event sports betting to customers in the province since August 2021, after Bill C-218 was passed by legislators.
Although not as developed as the more open-market Ontario betting space, British Columbia’s high-wealth population and local sporting scene means wagering is a popular product.
The rising popularity of sports betting in the province prompted the BCLC to join the United Lotteries for Integrity in Sports (ULIS), becoming the third Canadian lottery operator after Loto Quebec and Ontario Lottery and Gaming (OLG) to do so.
