IGT extends deal with ‘sports betting champion’ Rhode Island Lottery

The Rhode Island Lottery has renewed its agreement with International Game Technology (IGT) for a further three years.

Under the terms of the extension, IGT will continue to provide its PlaySports sports betting solutions to the state lottery and its sportsbook partner, Caesars Entertainment’s William Hill US brand.

IGT will power statewide mobile sports betting operations via the Sportsbook Rhode Island app as well as at retail locations at Bally’s Twin River Lincoln Casino Resorts and Tiverton Casino and Hotel.

Joe Asher, IGT President of Sports Betting, said: “The Rhode Island Lottery championed sports betting in 2018 as one of the early adopters in the post-PASPA era, and IGT is excited to continue driving Rhode Island’s sports betting growth.

“Rhode Island is home to very loyal sports fans who love following their New England-based teams. The enhancements IGT has made to the Lottery’s sports betting platform and app provide fans with a convenient and intuitive player experience and yield strong returns that support the Lottery’s commitment to generating revenue for good causes.”

In addition to sports betting, IGT will also continue to provide ILottery, lottery, instant ticket and video lottery solutions to the Rhode Island Lottery for a further three years, following on from a 20-year extension signed with the state lottery last year.

By securing yet another extension with the Rhode Island Lottery, London-based, NYSE-listed IGT continues to make strides in its global growth strategy, targeting expansion in North and South America and Europe.

In the lottery space, the agreement follows the firm’s successful tender for traditional lottery operation management in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais – as part of a consortium with Scientific Games (SG) and local firm Saga BGI – as well as a 10-year deal with the Malta National Lottery back in February.

The deal comes as the Rhode Island Lottery continues to make strides of its own, both relating to sports betting and traditional lottery products, having reported sales of $305.1m for the 2022 fiscal year.

Mark Furcolo, Rhode Island Lottery Director, remarked: “As one of the first US lotteries to launch sports betting, Rhode Island Lottery is very pleased with the successful program we have built over the last five years, backed by IGT’s world-class technology and William Hill’s operator experience.

“IGT recently invested significant resources to enhance our sports betting platform and mobile app. These upgrades will enable us to maximise revenue and offer a solution that remains competitive among neighbouring states in this dynamic, regional sports betting market.”
