German online lottery provider LOTTO24 paid out a record total to players last year, spreading €316.96m across almost 1.2m winners.

Publishing its Winners’ Report 2022, the group revealed Eurojackpot – the transnational European lottery – was its most costly in terms of payout, accounting for 67.6% (€214.2m) of player winnings.

This was followed by LOTTO 6aus49 (€74.2m) in second place and Spiel 77 (€11.21m) in third place.

“As the market leader for online lotteries, it is our job to make people dream,” said Helmut Becker, CEO of ZEAL, the holding company of LOTTO24.

“We are pleased and proud to have accompanied so many of our customers in fulfilling their dreams last year and keep our fingers crossed for all players in the new year.”

According to the report, most of the winners came from Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg and North Rhine-Westphalia. A lottery club in the latter won over €110m in May 2022 – the biggest lottery win in German history up to that date – creating 15 millionaires in the process.

Meanwhile, LOTTO24 confirmed last week that Eurojackpot has been adapted to enable a multiplayer function, meaning a private syndicate can now be created and named by the players themselves.
