Loteria Romana, Romania’s Lottery, has agreed to a contract with the country’s state-owned CEC Bank to implement card payments with its lottery units.

According to the contract, CEC Bank will deploy point-of-sale (POS) equipment to the 903 lottery units across Romania. This will allow customers to complete transactions via phone or using contactless payments.

The installation is expected to be finished by the end of February and it will support cards issued both in the country and abroad.

Sebastian-Iacob Moga, General Manager at Loteria Romana, said: “The implementation of card payment in all our own lottery agencies is another important and necessary step in the process of digitising Loteria Romana and a fulfilled promise to our players.

“The pilot project started last year on card payment in 91 of our own agencies in Bucharest and Brasov and was carried out successfully, respecting all security standards, so it was time to extend to the entire network of own agencies this payment method agreed by the majority of players, especially in the current health context.

“In addition, for the security and speed of the transactions, the specialists of Loteria Romana realised in record time the interface of the lottery terminal application with the POS.”

Last September, Loteria Romana and the Romanian Digitisation Authority signed a contract for the creation and development of the computer platform for marketing online lottery games.
