GLMS unveils ‘great asset’ in Cassandra Matilde Fernandes

The Global Lottery Monitoring System (GLMS) has officially announced the appointment of Cassandra Matilde Fernandes as the organisation’s new Legal and Projects Manager.

Set to join the GLMS team in Lausanne on 1 April, Fernandes holds an LLM from UC Berkeley, a Masters in both European law and Sports law as well as an LLB in Law and French from Cardiff University.

As a result, Fernandes has had an extensive professional career in sports law and consultancy that has seen her work within the European Commission, advise football clubs and agents on transfers and contracts, and represent players’ interests at the FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber.

Furthermore, most recently she has undertaken the role of legal counsel and Senior Project Manager at the Sports conventions division at the Council of Europe where she was responsible for legal issues relating to conventions.

These issues included the co-ordination of advisory groups of the Anti-Doping Convention, notably dealing with legal issues such as the revision of the World Anti-doping Code, and criminal legislation related to doping in sports.

Ludovico Calvi, GLMS President, discussed her appointment: “We are happy to welcome Cassandra in our team. Her legal background, her awareness of the sports integrity policies, as well as her experience with intergovernmental institutions such as the Council of Europe will, for sure, be a great asset for our growing association”.

In addition to her time with the Council of Europe, Fernandes has also undertaken the role of project manager for ‘Keep Crime out of Sport’, a project which looks to provide assistance across the globe to both combat against the manipulation of sports competitions and to provide assistance in regards to the disciplinary and criminal aspects of the problem.
