Allwyn UK, the operator of the country’s National Lottery, has made another move to enhance the product’s retail capabilities.
Late last week, the company delivered over 1.5 million limited edition FastPay wallets to National Lottery retailers across the UK.
Allwyn UK stated that the reason for the delivery is to “drive talkability” around National Lottery products, and in turn help drive draw game sales in stores.
The firm has set itself an ambitious target of doubling weekly returns to good causes from lottery sales from £30m to £60m by the end of its 10 year licence in 2034.
“We hope this free giveaway helps retailers raise awareness of National Lottery FastPay in their stores, as well as generate some chatter and fun with players,” said Karl Southworth, Allwyn’s Head of Field Sales.
“By the same token, there are also obvious benefits for retailers. FastPay customers play more frequently and generate more in sales, boosting commission and returns to Good Causes in the process.”
Allwyn has been putting a lot of time and effort into upgrading the National Lottery’s retail infrastructure, including a massive technical update in partnership with Scientific Games, completed in August 2025.
It also lauded a milestone moment this summer by launching Powerball UK, the first time the popular US lottery format – which can generate jackpots in the billions in rare cases – made its debut outside America.
In its latest move, the company’s handheld wallets are designed to hold a National Lottery FastPay card. Retailers can then gift these cards to their most loyal lottery customers, with the aim of migrating more customers to Allwyn’s new payments format.
Allwyn states that the cards speed up transactions, minimise queues, and boost repeat play.
The cards appear beneficial to its ticket sales ambitions, with FastPay users spending on average 37% more than Lucky Dip players.
