LOTTO Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has initiated a state-wide modernisation of its retail terminals across the Bundesland.
The rollout represents the biggest digitisation project in the state lottery’s history. To ensure a successful development and implementation process, LOTTO Mecklenburg-Vorpommern launched the “GETI – Get Innovation” tender, won by German IT service provider adesso.
All tablets across retail outlets will be standardised as opposed to the current specialised devices being used, with adesso the entity responsible for implementing, maintaining and developing the software.
The multi-million Euro contract is set to run for a total of 10 years, with the first adesso lottery tablets field-tested in early 2028 and a target deadline for a full scale rollout around the Summer or Autumn of that year.
First unveiled at the 2024 World Lottery Summit in Paris, the tablets themselves are described by adesso as the “first lottery terminal based on conventional consumer hardware”. They are fitted with a Neural Processing Unit, which can handle AI processing.
The project will be presented to an international audience and industry experts at the 2026 World Lottery Summit in Sydney this November.
Elisabeth Aßmann, Managing Director of LOTTO Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, commented: “The around 490 lottery outlets in the state are a key part of LOTTO Mecklenburg-Western Vorpommern. At the same time, our customers’ expectations regarding how they play are changing.
“As part of the largest digitalisation project in the history of the state lottery company, we are working with adesso to introduce a new, modern and customer-friendly generation of tablets, which will ensure the long-term viability of our in-store services and integrate them effectively with digital offerings.
“Through this project, we are consistently and sustainably developing our existing processes and systems, creating tangible added value through new digital solutions. With this terminal solution, we are able to make processes simpler, more intuitive, faster and more transparent for both our customers and our staff.”
