Brightstar Lottery has signed yet another commercial partnership as 2025 nears its end, with the company setting itself up in a solid financial position ahead of the new year.
The firm’s Australian division, Brightstar Lottery Australia Corporation, has signed a deal with the Lotteries Commission, the state lottery operator of Western Australia – trading as Lotterywest.
Terms of the 19-year deal cover lottery and digital products, including the development of a new central gaming system. The deal begins with a nine-year base contract, with the remaining 10 years consisting of one four-year renewal option and two three-year options.
“The replacement of Lotterywest’s gaming system is part of our ongoing commitment to modernizing our operations to support players and retailers, ensuring ongoing returns to the Western Australia community,” said Colin Smith, Lotterywest CEO.
“The new gaming system was critical to protecting and sustaining Lotterywest’s rich history and the community impact it has delivered for the past 92 years. This investment will provide us with a fit-for-purpose lottery gaming system allowing us to continue to evolve and innovate.”
Brightstar has had its foot to the floor over the past six months or so when it comes to commercial partnerships, having moved quickly to establish itself as a leading B2B supplier to the lottery space following its rebrand.
The company traded for decades as IGT, consisting of two divisions – a lottery division and a gaming technology division. The gaming division was divested to investment firm Apollo Global Management in July this year, with the deal agreed the year prior.
Following this divestment, the IGT lottery business rebranded as Brightstar – the new name being symbolic of its new focus on lotteries only. Since then it has been hard at work to maintain commercial contracts from its IGT days, signing deals with state lotteries in Missouri, the Czech Republic, Saxony, Italy, and now Western Australia.
Marco Tasso, Brightstar Chief Operating Officer International and Italy Operations, said: “Throughout its 90-plus years, Lotterywest has established itself as forward-thinking lottery, committed to responsibly growing sales and making a positive impact on its communities.
“Brightstar is excited to support Lotterywest in its next chapter by introducing our premier technology and comprehensive product solutions, to help shape the future of lottery in Western Australia and support responsible growth.”
