The opening weekend of the new NFL season has broken the record for total handle bet by New Hampshire players, according to the New Hampshire Lottery.

The 2022 NFL season got underway on September 8 with the defending Super Bowl LVI champions Los Angeles Rams falling to defeat against the Buffalo Bills, and the resumption of American football has proven to be popular with bettors in the State of New Hampshire.

So far this season, New Hampshire players have placed more than 300,000 wagers on NFL and NCAA football, and nearly $8.5m was wagered on the NFL last weekend, beating the previous record of $7.2m set on the opening weekend last year.

“This is an incredibly exciting time for sports fans across the northeast, and our record-breaking success this past weekend demonstrates interest in football is at an all-time high here in the Granite State,” said Charlie McIntyre, Executive Director, New Hampshire Lottery.

“The NFL and NCAA football are our biggest sports betting drivers, making major impacts on our ongoing effort to maximise funding for education.

“Between the thousands of markets available on the DraftKings Sportsbook and the $5 Go Pats! scratch ticket and the Go Pats! e-Instant game, New Hampshire players have a wide variety of ways to get in on the action this season.”

The $5 ticket features a top prize of $100,000 and is on sale at more than 1,200 retail locations statewide, while the e-Instant game has a top prize of $25,000.

“New Hampshire continues to provide the best sports gaming experience in the country,” added Chris Sununu, Governor of New Hampshire.

“From cheering on our New England Patriots to always betting on a Tom Brady win, fans have an unparalleled experience here in New Hampshire – and we are on a roll!”
