Multinational lottery giant Allwyn has hired a new Chief Technology Officer as the company continues to press ahead with digitalisation and technological transformation.

The firm has decided that the former CTO of Betsson Group, Fredrik Ögren, is up to the task. Ögren joins the firm after five years at Betsson, a Swedish company with a footprint across European, African and South American betting markets.

Ögren replaces Brett Cross as Allwyn’s Technology Chief. Cross was fulfilling the role on an interim basis, and will continue at the firm in the dual capacity of Deputy Group CTO and CTO of Global Lottery.

“We’re delighted to welcome Fredrik to Allwyn,” said Kresimir Spajic, Chief Executive Officer of Allwyn Digital.

“He brings deep industry experience, strong technical expertise and a proven track record of leading technology transformation across global organisations.

“His appointment is an important step in building a more  scalable technology platform across the Group, helping us deliver even better experiences for our customers and partners.

“I’d also like to thank Brett Cross for his leadership as interim Group CTO and congratulate  him on his new role as CTO of Global Lottery. Together, Fredrik and Brett form a strong  technology leadership team for the next phase of Allwyn’s growth.”

As Allwyn’s Group CTO, Ögren will likely work closely with Spajic, who as CEO of the still relatively young Allwyn Digital division – created in September 2025 – plays a key role in overseeing the firm’s technological and digital transformation projects.

While much of Allwyn’s business is retail-based, due to the nature of lotteries, it has taken note of increasing digitalisation. For example, more than 51% of UK National Lottery ticket sales are now conducted digitally.

Ögren has been tasked with leveraging his experience in driving digital technology transformations at large companies to drive Allwyn’s own digital ambitions.

This will include working closely with teams across Allwyn’s various markets, with the firm being the operator of national lotteries in the UK and Greece and part of the consortium operating the Italian lottery, to name a few examples.

The firm also has a considerable footprint in online betting via stakes in Betano owner Kaizen Gaming and via the merger with Greek betting firm OPAP last year. It is also involved in US daily fantasy sports (DFS) and prediction markets via the acquisition of PrizePicks.

“I am thrilled to be joining Allwyn at such an exciting stage in its growth journey,” said Ögren.
