German lottery conglomerate ZEAL Network SE has welcomed Dr Stefan Tweraser as the company’s new CEO.
Tweraser is to become a member of ZEAL’s Management Board effective 25 August, and Chairman of the Management Board starting 15 September.
He takes on the reins from his predecessor, Dr Helmut Becker, who in March declared that he will not extend his contract which ends on 14 September. Becker however will remain as a ZEAL consultant until the end of January.
Overseeing all of ZEAL’s commercial activities, Tweraser will leverage his professional portfolio encompassing international leadership expertise from companies across the digital, technology, and consulting industries like Google, Telekom Austria, and McKinsey.
Over the last few years, ZEAL has been strengthening its presence on the German market, particularly through extensive marketing campaigns which have resulted in strong revenue gains.
Releasing its Q1 2025 financials earlier in May, ZEAL registered YoY revenue growth of 42%, going up from €36.1m to €51.1m. EBITDA stood at €17.7m – up 89% from €9.4m in Q1 2024.
In the three months leading up to March, ZEAL managed to increase its overall number of monthly active users by 13% to 1.5m people.
Commenting on the results, the company’s statement read: “The first quarter of 2025 was not only extremely successful for ZEAL, but also highly indicative of our future direction.
“We achieved significant growth in both revenue and profitability, while continuing to add new customers and thus strengthening our position as Germany’s leading online lottery provider.”
ZEAL’s commercial strategy was also recently supported by a new Board of Directors Chair in the face of Carola von Schmettow.
Von Schmettow is a former CEO of HSBC Germany, having worked with the banking conglomerate for 29 years, boasting a degree in maths from the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf.
