Scientific Games (SG) is maintaining its position as one of the biggest technology and hardware providers to the US lottery sector, adding another layer to a major existing partnership.

The company, which is headquartered in the state of Georgia but active internationally, is launching its retail terminals with various South Carolina Education Lottery (SCEL)  outlets.

This marks an expansion of the group’s profile in the Carolinas, building on the rollout of the SCiQ terminals with North Carolina Education Lottery (NCEL) early last month.

SCiQ’s primary purpose is as a scratch game inventory management data system. Lotteries using the system aim to address supply chain efficiencies and in turn find a boost for scratch game-derived revenue.

Dolly Garfield, CEO of the SCEL, said, “We’re embarking upon our first retail modernization initiative with a trusted partner in Scientific Games.

“Our teams understand that retail has evolved considerably over the past decade, and we know it’s important to our players that SCEL Scratch-Offs are accessible and easy to purchase.

“SCiQ will also simplify operations for our retailers, offering efficiencies that increase the value of selling our games in their stores.”

SG has been working with the South Carolina lottery for some time, having secured a six-year renewal of its partnership with the state lottery back in 2020.

Since then, the company has commented publicly about the significance of the partnership to its overall performance as well as the contribution its products make to the lottery’s own operations.

As stated above, the company stands out as one of the biggest solutions providers to US lotteries. It has stiff competition, however, from the likes of International Game Technology (IGT) and Pollard Banknote.

Michael Martin, VP Retail Solutions for Scientific Games, commented on its arrangement with the SCEL: “We are honored to partner with the South Carolina Education Lottery on many exciting firsts since its inception.

“SCEL leadership has always demonstrated a great vision for how to drive performance and profitability for its Scratch-Off games, and SCiQ technology is the next step in ensuring continued success.”
