Slovakia changes steward of National Gambling helpline

Starting this month, Slovakia’s national gambling helpline will be managed by the Predná Hora specialist treatment center.

Located in the Slovakian mountains, Predná Hora was once a Bulgarian royal residence but has operated as a hospital for addiction and compulsive gambling treatment since 1995. The center collaborates internationally, working with universities and hospitals in Poland, Sweden, and the Czech Republic on joint research initiatives.

Vladimír Stanislav, the center’s director, emphasized its comprehensive treatment approach: “We work with a structured program, a strong community, and, most importantly, a dedicated team that believes our clients are valuable individuals capable of change.”

The helpline will be available daily from 9 AM to 1 AM through a free phone number. Outside of these hours, callers can leave a message on an answering machine.

Support extends beyond problem gamblers to their families and friends who may also be affected. Specialist staff will provide guidance on intervention strategies, while the center itself offers prevention, diagnosis, and treatment services.

Martin Bohoš, Director General of Slovakia’s Gambling Regulatory Authority, highlighted the significance of this shift: “Entrusting the helpline to Predná Hora marks a major step in delivering professional support to problem gamblers and their loved ones.

“Seeking help isn’t a weakness—it’s a courageous and responsible choice.”
