NGSN launches lived experience recovery support for Gambling Harms

The National Gambling Support Network (NGSN) has introduced recovery support groups led by people with lived experience of gambling harm.

In partnership with EPIC Restart Foundation and Reframe Coaching, the NGSN now offers a service across Great Britain that brings first-hand expertise and insights into gambling disorders.

Richie Paxton, Interim CEO and Head of Programmes at EPIC Restart Foundation, said:
“We’re excited to join the NGSN and collaborate with other providers to offer a seamless recovery path for those affected by gambling harm.

“At EPIC Restart, we provide compassionate guidance and coaching, grounded in lived experience. Our mission is to help individuals navigate recovery and rebuild their lives with renewed hope.”

With support from EPIC and Reframe, the NGSN aims to expand its reach, having already supported around 11,000 individuals between April 2023 and March 2024—an increase of 12% year-on-year.

Rashael Girling, Co-Founder of Reframe Coaching, added:
“Steve and I are delighted that Reframe Coaching has joined the NGSN. When we founded the charity in 2020, our goal was to provide ongoing recovery support to anyone affected by gambling.

“As a Lived Experience Recovery Organisation, all our support is delivered by trained Recovery Coaches who have experienced gambling harm themselves. This ensures that those seeking help can speak to someone who truly understands their situation.

“We look forward to working with the NGSN to provide a recovery-focused service that complements existing treatment options.”

Since the publication of the Gambling Act White Paper, organisations like GambleAware have repeatedly called for more public funding for third parties specialising in long-term gambling recovery.

Anna Hargrave, Deputy CEO of GambleAware, commented on NGSN’s latest efforts:
“The National Gambling Support Network, commissioned by GambleAware, remains a vital part of local communities across Great Britain, providing essential support to those affected by gambling harm.

“Since its launch nearly two years ago, the NGSN has continually expanded its services. The addition of EPIC Restart Foundation and Reframe Coaching strengthens the network by bringing valuable experience and expertise.

“Gambling harm can affect anyone. It’s crucial that support is available for everyone—whether they’re just starting their recovery or nearing the end of their journey.”
