The British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) has been selected as one of BC’s Top 100 Employers in 2023, drawing praise for its mental health initiatives.
The annual competition is organised by the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers and features in a special magazine co-published with The Vancouver Sun, recognising employers in the Canadian province that ‘lead their industries in offering exceptional places to work’.
Employers throughout BC are evaluated by the editors at Canada’s Top 100 Employers using the same criteria as the national competition: (1) Workplace; (2) Work Atmosphere & Social; (3) Health, Financial & Family Benefits; (4) Vacation & Time Off; (5) Employee Communications; (6) Performance Management; (7) Training & Skills Development; and (8) Community Involvement.
BCLC was highlighted for its work in three different areas, one being its remote workplace policy, which sees employees provided with essential equipment and given the opportunity to purchase ergonomic chairs from the organisation at the cost of $1.
The corporation was also recognised for supporting a wellness strategy and a psychological health and safe workplace advisory team which strives to make mental health care services accessible, with coverage of up to $3,000 per year as part of its benefits plan.
BCLC was further selected for helping employees to prepare for life after work with retirement assistance planning, including a defined benefit pension plan and health benefits that extend into retirement (with no age limit and 100% premium coverage).
The annual competition is open to any employer with its head office or principal place of work in BC, and employers of any size are eligible to apply, whether private or public sector.
