The Texas Lottery has announced the release of its latest ‘Veterans Cash’ scratch ticket game in support of the state’s veterans.

The first version of Veterans Cash debuted in 2009 and, in total, 63 scratch ticket games have been designed to support Texas veterans.

The 2022 edition of Veterans Cash – priced at $2 a ticket – features more than $7.7m in total cash prizes, including five $30,000 top prizes. The overall odds of winning are one in 4.4 for any prize, including break-even prizes.

Proceeds from tickets are used to support the Texas Veterans Commission’s Fund for Veterans’ Assistance (FVA).

“Since 2009, the Texas Lottery has been honoured to generate revenue – more than $194m to-date – for the Fund for Veterans’ Assistance,” said Gary Grief, Executive Director of the Texas Lottery.

“During the 2022 fiscal year alone, the Texas Lottery Commission transferred a record-breaking $26m to the FVA.

“Our team is focused on developing innovative scratch ticket games that will continue to be popular among our players in an effort to produce much-needed revenue for the FVA.”

The FVA, which has been administered by the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) since 2007, makes grants available to eligible charitable organisations, local government agencies and veterans service organisations that provide direct services to Texas veterans and their families.

These programmes provide financial assistance, transportation services, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder counselling and housing assistance to over 1.7million veterans in Texas.

“Veterans win when lottery players buy these Veterans Cash tickets,” added TVC Chairwoman and Navy veteran Laura Koerner.

“Proceeds from these games provide financial assistance, home modification, counselling and more to veterans in need.

“Thank you, Texans, for playing and supporting our veterans.”

Since 2009 through the current 2022-2023 grant cycle, the TVC has awarded over $234m in FVA grant funds to hundreds of organisations that have assisted over 400,000 veterans across the state.

During the last grant cycle, TVC awarded 139 grants totaling more than $31m to over 120 organisations that served an estimated 22,000 veterans.

In FY2021, the Texas Lottery transferred $23.4m to the FVA.
