WLA and European Lotteries remember the life of Yvonne Schnyder

The World Lottery Association (WLA) and the European Lotteries both reflected on the life of former WLA General Secretary Yvonne Schnyder, who passed away in May.

Schnyder died on May 6, 2021, at the age of 78 at her home in Bottmingen, Switzerland. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Werner Schnyder, who passed away in September 2020.

UK Gambling Commission suspends licence of Lottery England Limited

The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) suspended the operating licence of Lottery England Limited.

The Commission stated that it instigated a review under s116 of the Gambling Act 2005 into Lottery England Limited following ‘concerns that activities may have been carried out contrary to the Act, not in accordance with conditions of their licence’.

Scientific Games congratulates Ohio Lottery for new scratch-off retail sales record

Scientific Games Corporation congratulated its instant games partner the Ohio Lottery on reaching $2bn in scratch-off retail sales six weeks before the end of its 2020-21 fiscal year, marking a new record for the lottery after it surpassed its previous peak of $1.87bn set in 2020.

In July 2019, the Buckeye State lottery partnered with Scientific Games to grow its $1.68bn scratch-off category and its proceeds to Ohio’s Lottery Profits Education Fund. In 2020, the lottery ranked 16th in the world for total instant game sales (La Fleur’s 2021 Almanac) and, currently, scratch-off games represent 53% of its revenues.

Veikkaus’ maximum loss limits on online games made permanent

Finland’s Minister of the Interior Maria Ohisalo announced that the monthly and daily maximum loss limits for Veikkaus Oy’s fast-paced online games would become permanent after being only temporary measures over the previous year.

Ohisalo issued the decree on June 18 which made the maximum daily loss limit for the Finnish lottery operator’s fast-paced online games (casino and slots) remain at €500, while the maximum monthly loss limit would remain at €2,000.

GLMS reelects Ludovico Calvi as its President

The Global Lottery Monitoring System (GLMS) reelected Lottomatica’s Ludovico Calvi as its President, as well as a new Executive Committee for the period 2021-2023 during its online General Assembly at the time

The Executive Committee forms one of GLMS’ four governing bodies, together with the General Secretariat, headquartered in Lausanne, the General Meeting (membership) and the Auditors. It is made up of eight members, including a Chair, acting as President, and a Vice-Chair. Each committee member has to represent a different country’s lottery.
