The West Virginia Lottery Commission has granted a permanent sports wagering licence to Genius Sports Limited.

Genius Sports is a sports data and technology company that provides data management, video streaming and integrity services to sports leagues, betting and media companies.

Mark Locke, CEO of Genius Sports, commented: “Genius Sports is fully committed to supporting the development of, and operating in, regulated territories in partnership with fully licenced sportsbooks. West Virginia remains at the forefront of liberalisation in the US and one of the most proactive proponents of legalised sports wagering.

“I’m honoured that we have been awarded this licence to provide our industry-leading services in the Mountain state and that our sportsbook partners will continue to utilise our solutions to help them thrive in this rapidly growing market.”

Genius Sports is now operational in 13 US states, providing official data, streaming, and marketing solutions for sportsbooks and lotteries. West Virginia was the fifth US state to offer legal and regulated sports betting when it launched in 2018.

Back in April, the West Virginia Lottery Commission approved a change that will allow operators of limited video lottery machines to open up as early as 6 am.
