China’s Welfare and Sports Lotteries recorded revenues of ¥29.1bn (circa $4.56bn) in April according to data from the Ministry of Finance (MOF).
April 2021’s revenue represents an increase of 24.4% when compared to the same period the previous year, but marked a fall of 2.3% when compared to March 2021 (¥29.81bn).
China’s Welfare Lottery achieved revenue of ¥11.16bn for April, a 6.2% decrease year on year, while its Sports Lottery tallied ¥17.94bn in revenue for the same period, a 56.3% increase.
Back in May, China’s Welfare and Sports Lotteries reported it achieved ¥84.52bn (circa $13.07bn) in ticket sales for the first quarter of 2021.
In total, over the first four months of 2021, the organisation’s revenues amounted to ¥113.63bn, breaking down into ¥45.16bn of Welfare Lottery revenue and ¥68.47bn of Sports Lottery revenue.
MOF data also shows that sales in the provinces of Guangdong, Zhejiang, Shandong, Jiangsu and Henan were relatively high in April.
China’s lottery management rules state that money from ticket sales is to be used for administrative expenses, public welfare projects and prize winnings.
