Australia’s official lotteries provider The Lott by Tatts NT has announced it will once again be the naming rights partner of the Northern Territory’s biggest annual sporting event, the Tatts Finke Desert Race.

The Tatts Finke Desert Race is an iconic motorsport event with a reputation of being one of the world’s most difficult and gruelling off-road courses in a remote location. The Lott has supported the event for more than two decades, now in its 22nd year.

During that period The Lott has seen the Tatts Finke Desert Race, affectionately known as Finke, evolve from a local community event to a world-class spectacle that embodies the spirit of the Northern Territory.

In 2000, Tatts’ first year as naming rights sponsor for the event and Finke’s 25th year, there were 305 bike and 105 car competitors, 200 volunteers and approximately 8,000 spectators. Now in 2021, the event has almost doubled in size and strength, with entries into the race already sold out, leaving many more on the waiting list.

The Lott spokesperson Hans de Koning stated the lotteries brand was proud to continue lending its support to Australia’s ultimate desert race.

He commented: “At The Lott, we are passionate about connecting with, and supporting, the communities we operate in, and we have loved being part of the Finke family during the past two decades.

“The race, the people and the terrain is like nothing else, and it continues to go from strength to strength. Our ongoing commitment is our way of saying thanks to those who compete in and support this amazing event. We can’t wait to be at the finish line of the Tatts Finke Desert Race in 2021, and we look forward to supporting the race for many years to come.”

Tatts Finke Desert Race President Antony Yoffa added the sponsorship had made a significant contribution to the event’s achievements.

Yoffa said: “Without the support of The Lott by Tatts NT, the Tatts Finke Desert Race wouldn’t be the success it is today. Over the 20+ years Tatts has been involved, we have seen the event grow considerably, becoming a truly unique and greatly celebrated iconic event.

“We would like to thank The Lott by Tatts for its ongoing support, and we look forward to continuing this strong relationship well into the future.”

Last financial year, Australia’s Official Lotteries contributed more than $1.4bn via state lottery taxes and donations to help community initiatives, such as hospitals, health research, disaster relief and education.
