Brazilian lottery federation to hold elections in October

The Brazilian Federation of Lottery Companies (Febralot) has requested its Council of Representatives hold an electoral assembly on October 15. The regular and alternate members of the board would participate in the elections, along with the fiscal council and the confederative delegation from 2020-2024.

The registration period will end on September 12, while submissions will be analysed within 72 hours of the publication of the registration. Febralot explained that, as part of the process, it will receive official documents via email.

The Federation has said that in the case where there are more votes than registered participants, a new call will be made within the first 24 hours. In the event of a tie, a new election would be held on a future date set by the Board.

Back in July, Febralot had requested Caixa cancel the tender process to open new lotteries in seven Brazilian states. Instead, they said that they should strengthen the online sector to maintain sales.

The new authorities will be part of a process in which federal lotteries will be sold by the government in order to privatise a number of public institutions, with the aim to collect billions and contribute to the public coffers.

Last week, Febralot authorities met Caixa executives to discuss flaws in lottery systems, as new equipment that entered the network in Brazil caused certain failures.

Febralot said the problems are not related to the equipment, ‘but to the system itself, which has shown many fluctuations, mainly in its structure.’ In addition, the federation mentioned flaws in totalisers, audit logs and deposit transactions, which according to Febralot ‘have greatly impacted the lottery network in providing an adequate and reliable service.’
