The Costa Rican Social Protection Board (JPS) has announced that it will restart the National Lottery and Popular Lottery draws on May 8, but will run them alternately.

Next month’s draws will take place on the 15, 19 and 24, while the Gran Chance draw will happen on May 29. Registered vendors will be able to collect them on May 4.

According to a statement on social media, the JPS vendors won’t be subject to penalties in case they return the tickets. In addition, lottery prizes will not be affected, and vendors who withdraw all products will receive promotional items.

“Prize payments will work as usual at all authorized points and the winners will have the option of exchanging them in all agencies of the Banco de Costa Rica (BCR) and Coopealianza,” said the JPS.

In order to safeguard employees’ health, the JPS will establish a series of measures to follow instructions issued by the government.

The regulator, which will also provide exclusive service hours to a small group of ‘at-risk’ vendors, added: “13% can appoint a representative to withdraw and return the lottery tickets, in order to avoid visiting the headquarters.”

Earlier this month, the Board of Directors of the JPS decided not to stop the subsidy to lottery vendors and will complete the remaining payments in the next couple of months. According to decree JD256, 1,600 vendors received the $550,000 subsidy funded with resources from the board.
