The Lottery of the City of Buenos Aires has teamed up with the Council of the Magistracy to reduce the risk of minors involving themselves with gambling.
The agreement, signed last week, aims to create an informative ‘risk prevention guide’, directed at minors, parents and educators, giving tips in an attempt to prevent underage persons from developing problem behaviours.
Its signing was attended by Jesús Acevedo, President of the City Lottery; Eva Del Río Frontera, General Secretary; Karina Leguizamón, President of the Council of the Judiciary; and Alicia Caruso, Director of Justice and Education.
Buenos Aires pioneering gambling measures in Argentina
The move is the latest in the country which is attempting to reduce the proliferation of gambling across Argentina.
Towards the end of 2025, the government introduced new federal legislation on gambling advertising, whereby two mandatory warnings – “compulsive gambling is harmful to your health” and “for +18 customers” – have to be used on advertisements.
It also follows a 2024 ban on ATMs being present in land-based gambling establishments in Buenos Aires.
Content in the guide will be related to the prevention of illegal betting, parameters of safe gambling, help and guidance channels, and protection tools for digital environments. It will be distributed to both primary and secondary schools across the Argentinian capital.
Measures like this are not uncommon in Argentina – last year, gambling addiction prevention workshops, again developed by both of these organisations, were introduced to secondary schools across Buenos Aires.
With the 2026 FIFA World Cup and many other major domestic footballing events, including the CONMEBOL Libertadores and the Liga Profesional de Fútbol, set to reach their climax over the remainder of the year, the introduction comes at an apt time – one when minors in Buenos Aires may be exposed to gambling more regularly.
The City Lottery has said that the move reaffirms its commitment to the development of public policies aimed at prevention and awareness, working with City Government agencies to promote safer digital environments and responsible use of technology.
