Swedish company Kambi has secured a major contract to effectively become a near-nationwide provider of sports betting technology in Canada.
The Stockholm Nasdaq company has penned a deal with Canada’s Atlantic Lottery Corporation (ALC) and British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC), two Crown Corporations covering seven of Canada’s 10 provinces.
The ALC has the exclusive rights to operate lottery, sports betting and gaming across the provinces of New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland and Labrador.
Meanwhile, the BCLC operates the state lottery of its home state, British Columbia, as well as operating sports betting and gaming there. However, it also provides sports betting and online gambling in Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
An ALC-led Request for Proposal (RFP) sought to appoint a single supplier for a sports betting solution for use across provincial lottery operators. The tender process ultimately led to the choice of Kambi and its Turnkey Sportsbook product.
Scott Eagles, the ALC’s Director of Sports Betting, said: “This collaboration represents an important step forward in how provincial lotteries work together to deliver a consistent, high‑quality sports betting experience for players, while maintaining strong governance within each jurisdiction.
“Through this collective approach, we are focused on prioritising trust, integrity and player protection. Kambi’s proven sportsbook technology, deep experience supporting lottery and state‑owned operators, and ability to deliver across both digital and retail channels made them a strong partner to support our shared objectives and the long‑term future of sports betting for Canadians.”
A big win for Kambi
Deal terms will see Kambi deliver its sportsbook product to both lotteries across all seven provinces, for use across online and retail channels. The solution includes trading capabilities and advanced risk and liability management.
The company announced the contract the same day it released its Q1 financials. The first quarter of the year has been a positive one for Kambi, with overall revenue up 4.9% year-over-year to €43.5m (£40m).
Contracts with both private and state-owned operators, including lotteries, will be critical for the company moving forward. The deal with ALC and BCLC announced this morning follows a similar partnership with the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG), as well as partnerships with France’s Pari Mutuel Urban, among others.
Werner Becher, Chief Executive Officer of Kambi Group, said: “Being selected to power this multi-province sportsbook solution is a strong endorsement of Kambi’s trusted technology, regulatory expertise and proven ability to deliver at scale.
“ALC and BCLC have set out a clear vision for a single, consistent sportsbook and we are proud to support its next phase with our high‑performance, compliant and proven Turnkey Sportsbook.
“Kambi has a long history of working with lottery and state‑owned operators worldwide, and we look forward to delivering a world‑class sports betting experience for players across multiple Canadian provinces.”
Kambi expects to close 2026 with full year adjusted EBITDA of between €20m-€25m, based on the Q1 achievement of €5.7m, 63.5% higher than a loss of €3.5m the year prior.
Becher remarked that Kambi’s ‘expansion in Canada’ along with its debut in France via the PMU deal shines a spotlight on the firm’s “growing relevance among leading national and institutional operators’.
