The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) is adding another layer to its technological capabilities with the addition of new geolocation services.

The Crown Corporation has partnered with mkodo, which will provide its GeoLocs software to the firm – incorporated into a pre-existing partnership between OLG and Bede Gaming.

Mkodo has already been working with both OLG and Bede, supporting the development of the lottery operator’s app. The trio have set out a joint goal of further developing tech reliability, compliance and trust over the coming years.

Alan D’Cunha, Senior Director, Digital Delivery and Release Train at OLG, said: “Our partnership with mkodo and Bede to enable GeoLocs for our digital channel ensures we continue to put regulatory compliance at the forefront.

“Accuracy and reliability in our geolocation technology is critical, and Mkodo has proven to offer best in class technology in this space.”

GeoLocs will be used to ensure Ontario customers can access OLG’s lottery and gaming products within the parameters of Ontario’s jurisdictional and regulatory requirements.

Ontario is thus far the only regulated multi-licence province in Canada, though Alberta has recently confirmed 13 July as the start date for the launch of its own open betting and gaming market.

OLG shares the Ontario market with a number of domestic and international competitors, including FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, Bet99, BetVictor and bet365, among others.

Will Whitehead, Commercial Director at mkodo, said: “We’re proud to be supporting OLG through Bede and to be extending our long-standing relationships with two partners we know and trust.

“Ontario is a highly regulated market, and this partnership reflects the importance of geolocation technology that delivers compliance without compromising the player experience.”

OLG has been working with Bede Gaming for some time, but in recent months has been moving to upgrade its tech capabilities. This was evident when it secured support from Kambi for its sportsbook operations.

Andrew Humphreys, Chief Product Engineering Officer at Bede Gaming added: “This new launch is a wonderful milestone that we are pleased to celebrate together.

“We’ve been impressed with the innovative technical solution of the GeoLocs product, which provides us with confidence in managing live player traffic in accordance with local regulations.

“Bede remains committed to providing a high quality, stable and compliant service, and mkodo’s GeoLocs technology plays an important part in our solution for OLG’s players.”
