Hungary’s Ministry of National Economy has announced that Zoltán Guller will succeed Andrea Mager as the CEO of the nation’s sports betting and lottery monopoly.
Guller will lead Szerencsejáték Zrt as a result of a reorganisation of Hungary’s senior cabinet and government agency leadership initiated by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
This included Mager resigning from the position as Szerencsejáték Zrt CEO last week, after being appointed personally by the Prime Minister to serve as a member for the National Bank of Hungary (MNB).
In addition to personnel changes, Orbán transferred the governance of the gambling monopoly from the National Concession Office to the Ministry of National Economy.
This subsection of Hungary’s government is now being led by a newly appointed secretary, Márton Nagy, who appointed Guller to the Chief Executive role earlier this week.
Nagy stated: “The Minister of National Economy expects Zoltán Guller to ensure the 21st-century-level fulfilment of the Hungarian population’s gaming experience needs, enhance customer experience, and create social value through cost-effective management and continuous product and service development.”
Guller brings previous experience from several influential state positions to the role, including serving as CEO of the Digital Hungary Agency until November 2024. He will also retain his position as chairman of the board at the Hungarian Tourism Agency (MTÜ) despite taking on the new role.
Developments in Hungary are being closely monitored in 2025, as Orbán’s government is yet to confirm whether it will launch the first new tender since 2011, the last time Szerencsejáték Zrt was contended.
