Greek national lottery operator OPAP SA has partnered with the Hellenic Basketball Federation (EEC) to act as a ‘gold sponsor’ of its men’s and women’s teams.

Signing a three-year deal, OPAP will aim to continue the progression of Greek basketball as its principal sponsor, supporting the federation at various age groups.

In addition, OPAP and EEC figures have teamed up to develop an action plan that promotes the social benefits of basketball as one of Greece’s most popular sports.

The action plan will see OPAP help EEC to promote women’s basketball whilst working on further local directives to expand access to basketball pitches, facilities and grassroots training.

Jan Karas, CEO of OPAP, commented: “As the federation’s gold sponsor, OPAP will proudly stand beside the national basketball men’s and women’s teams across all levels.

“We hope that OPAP’s logo on the national team’s shirt will be a lucky charm and will bring many wins and successes.”

OPAP will support the Greek men’s first team that is set to compete at the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup in the Philippines, as well as various sides at the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The EEC underlined OPAP as the best partner to support Greek basketball, whose past teams have won the European Championships (1987 and 2055), as well as securing second place in the 2006 World Championships.
