The Missouri State Lottery Commission has announced the state lottery has achieved its highest-performing fiscal year on record.
At its quarterly meeting, the lottery noted that sales topped $1.8bn for FY2021, translating into $377m in proceeds for education, which is approximately 3-4% of the state’s funding for public education.
$345m of lottery proceeds has already been transferred to the education fund in FY2021. Another $32.7m will be transferred in early July.
Lance Mayfield, Commission Chairman, commented: “I marvel at what you’ve done and the experience you have. I marvel at the integrity of the organisation financially. When you stack all that up, it’s just so impressive.”
Annual proceeds to education from the lottery have increased by around $90m over the last 12 years. The Commission also received updates about upcoming games and promotions, as well as strategic plan goals to optimise sales across retailers.
May Scheve Reardon, Missouri Lottery’s Executive Director, added: “We’re one of the strongest business partners the State of Missouri could have.”
Reardon further noted that more than $1.2bn was paid out to winners as prizes during the fiscal year, and Missouri businesses earned $103.1m selling lottery products.
Back in May, the state of Missouri added its name to a list of US states that will allow winners of lottery prizes to remain anonymous at their request.
