The World Lottery Association (WLA) has issued Tipos, Slovakia’s national lottery company, a Certificate of Compliance with the Certificate of Conformance Security Control Standard (SCS). It is the only lottery in Slovakia that has this certificate and it allows it to continue to offer the popular Eurojackpot number lottery.

Tipos spokeswoman Ivana Skokanová said the lottery was certified by the WLA as it met the strict criteria set by its Security Standard: 2016.

She added that the ongoing validity of this certificate depends on the positive outcome of each mandatory annual audit, which results in recertification every three years. The lottery has been subject to that certification since May 2014, and the certificate currently obtained will remain valid until mid-September 2023.

The certificate means Tipos meets the requirements of ISO 27001 together with other safety requirements specified by the WLA, including the specific safety and integrity of lottery and gaming controls. The lottery meets the association’s security requirements within its central and regional offices.

Skokanová said: “The possession of the certificate also has a direct impact on our services offered. For example, only those lottery companies of the European Union and the European Economic Area that have an information security certificate as required by the WLA-SCS participate in the Eurojackpot number lottery.”

WLA SCS is the only internationally recognized lottery industry security standard. It has been administered by the WLA’s Safety and Risk Management Committee since 1999. The committee manages the continuous improvement of the Safety Control Standard and also oversees the process of certification of members according to the standard.

Skokanová added: “The WLA Security Control Standard is one of the most important areas of accountability that this committee deals with.

“The regular audit is intended to assess compliance with this international standard within the scope of provision and management of state-licensed lottery and betting services, the acceptance of bets and the payment of winnings on the territory of the Slovak Republic, including development, design, sale, operation and support services under the Gambling Act.”
