Mexico requests financial injection for lotto equipment renewal

The National Lottery of Mexico has requested authorisation from the Ministry of Finance to make an investment of 29.8m pesos with the aim of updating the machines it uses to carry out its draws.

In a letter shared by El Sol de México, the Lottery said that 24.13% of the machines ‘are useless’ as they currently contain damages which includes broken glass, scratches, worn out parts and cables in poor condition.

“Some of the compressors that inject the air into the machines are patched up with tape, as they have leaks. There are two useless spare parts. There is no stock of bolts. The screws of the machines that are in stock are insufficient. They do not have the omegas that stop the pistons “, detailed the Lottery in its request.

It was also revealed by the national lottery that ‘it detected that there is only one serviceable distribution box’. Moreover, according to the lottery, these failures could affect the draws by two percent.

“The machines are the most important element in the celebration of the draws. The activities and processes of the operation of the entity, as well as the regulations and internal regulations in force are designed around their operation,” they added.

Currently, the teams which carry out the raffles undergo four annual maintenance checks for a value of roughly 1.28m pesos. With this being said, only the screws are cleaned and checked and the automatic parts are oiled. According to the Lottery, this process reduces the risk of contest cancellation by 10%.
