ASOBALSO seeks regulatory aid as illegal operations spike

The Association of Lottery Banks of West Santo Domingo (ASOBALSO) has formally submitted a claim to the Director of Casinos and Gaming of the Ministry of Finance following several complaints regarding unlicensed lottery operators offering unique electronic and international draws.

As has been argued by the organisation, recent months have seen a host of illegal offers made by ‘a group of electronic lottery concessionaires clearly seeking to take over the gambling sector’, which in turn could lead to the bankruptcy of over 500 lottery banks that have official operating permits.

A statement released by ASOBALOS read: “We demand that gambling be regulated, since it is not possible that there is a draw every five minutes and that international lotteries such as New York are operating in our country, that is illegal.”

Furthermore, as part of its claim, the group has also requested that all electronic lotteries should be seized due to the illegality surrounding their operations.

Additionally, it has been revealed that these draws are also being offered in neighborhood shops, such as pharmacies or greengrocers, where illegal operators establish bets through mobile devices with a total of 700 unlicensed electronic banks having already been found this year.

Due to this, the lotteries grouped in ASOBALSO have now requested the intervention of the director of Casinos and Gaming to regulate the emerging market and give priority to legal businesses.
