Mexico’s Loteria Nacional is set to resume its lottery draws on July 12, but under strict social distancing conditions to safeguard the health of members of the public and employees.

According to Rodolfo Martínez Figueroa, Deputy Director General for Marketing and Services of the Loteria Nacional para la Asistencia Pública, the lottery will be able to restart, applying a strict protocol for preventative sanitary measures in accordance with the provisions issued by the competent authorities in Mexico.

The protocol sets a mandatory use of face masks at public transportation and crowded places, as well as frequent hand washing and the use of antibacterial gel. At lottery shops, people need to keep at least five feet between them, and cannot have any type of physical contact.

Shops also need constant cleaning in workspaces and employees must set a disinfection schedule for surfaces with high levels of contacts.

On June 29, the national lottery gradually resumed the commercialization of lottery tickets of traditional draws at sales agencies, vending machines and through street vendors.

Back in May, and with the aim of giving financial assistance to employees affected by the pandemic, the Board of Directors of the lottery approved the “Emerging Program of Support for Traveling Ticket Sellers” in accordance with the provisions of the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

The special assistance was received by the 440 local lottery street vendors and by the 403 independent sellers. The financial aid is scheduled to continue at least until August.
