Panama’s vendors seek plan to modernize lottery

The Panamanian Vendors Union has made a public request to modernise the processes of the Lotería Nacional de Beneficencia (LNB) in the country, while also demanding more transparent communication and information regarding the reopening of services.

Fernando González from the Union said that the LNB would have to invest in modernizing lottery processes.

“It cannot be something improvised, the lottery needs to be modernised in terms of equipment, the processes that are carried out, such as the cash out, and the transactions that vendors carry out are done expeditiously. Because we cannot go back to big crowds, which is the reason why lotteries were forced to close,” he said.

González explained that the only information they have is about the measures being taken in the headquarters in terms of prevention, although they don’t know if they will be replicated in provincial agencies.

“We are waiting, there’s a lack of communication from the Lottery authorities. And as we’ve seen in press releases that show how the entity is preparing, we as vendors also need information to prepare for this.”

In addition, González talked about the possibility of online lotteries, but he believes that all parties involved need to agree on the subject before arriving to a conclusion, although he says that this isn’t possible yet due to current LNB rules.

“Yes, we have to adapt and modernize, but before we do that, the Lottery has to carry out this modernization in terms of current processes. And maybe in the near future, when all the parties can reach an agreement, we will be able to think about something that benefits vendors as well,” he concluded.
