xScientific Games has launched Obsidian, a new series of instant scratch games that combine new aesthetic design features with holographic effects.

The collection includes 18 designs and is intended to offer a distinctive visual and tactile experience for Scratch Cards sold at points of retail.

Fresh Concept / Fresh Design

The company detailed that Obsidian draws its name from volcanic rock and pairs dark tones with holographic visuals to create a reflective, glasslike finish.

The games were developed by Scientific Games’ Innovation and Discovery teams at its Atlanta headquarters, which houses the largest lottery instant game production facility in the world. Production will also take place in Canada and the UK.

“Our game innovators have followed holographic trends on high-end luxury items and were inspired to create fresh, new games centered on value proposition design for our lottery partners,” said Danielle Hodges, Senior Director, Global Product Innovation & Development.

“At a time when the market basket average is increasing, holographic games allow lotteries to differentiate their games by adding a touch of luxury and uniqueness. In sneak previews of Obsidian with several lotteries, the response we’ve received is pure excitement.”

Obsidian will be presented at the NASPL 2025 Conference in Ontario, Canada, from 8-11 September.

Context in the instant game market

Scientific Games’ scratch games account for 70% of global instant game retail sales. The company provides services to 150 lotteries in 50 countries.

The launch of Obsidian comes amid a broader industry trend toward differentiated, visually striking instant games that aim to attract consumer attention in crowded retail environments.

Georgia Lottery implements SCiQ

In a further scratch games boost, last week, the Georgia Lottery Corporation rolled out Scientific Games’ SCiQ ecosystem across 1,500 retail locations statewide.

The system modernises scratch game operations, streamlines the purchase process for players and retailers, and introduces real-time inventory management, digital menu boards, enhanced reporting and ticket-level tracking.

Besides Georgia, Scientific Games also expanded its market share in Kansas, Florida and North Carolina in 2025.
