The National Lottery’s operator Allwyn has expanded its partnership with Snappy Shopper to boost scratchcard sales.

The move has allowed for 172 independent National Lottery retailers to now sell scratchcards online through the platform – which the firm states has already generated over £150,000 in sales for retailers.

Allwyn Director of Commercial Partnerships and Retail Sales, Alison Acquaye-Acford, said: “We’re absolutely delighted with the growing number of National Lottery retailers signing up to sell Scratchcards online with Snappy Shopper.

“Over 170 retailers now signed up and selling is a huge milestone and good news for Good Causes and retailers themselves.”

The expansion follows an initial small-scale trial in summer last year, which reportedly demonstrated a ‘strong demand’ from customers seeking convenient access to National Lottery Scratchcards.

Since then, retailers have been able to sign up providing they meet the criteria, including using their own staff members for home deliveries, as well as being up to date with safeguarding training on the National Lottery Retail Training Centre.

“By integrating National Lottery Scratchcards into the platform, local retailers are unlocking new revenue streams while enhancing their digital offerings to meet evolving consumer habits,” added Acquaye-Acford.

Safe scratching

Allwyn became one of the very first lottery operators globally to launch a 10-Scratchcard per transaction limit.

This came into play in October 2024, and followed a similar limit introduced for authorised online retailers earlier that year. The goal of the change was to promote responsible gaming and safeguard players from excessive play.

The operator has also assured that by selling tickets to players, National Lottery retailers help raise approximately £30m every week for Good Causes.

Mike Callachan, CEO of Snappy Shopper, noted on the new deal: “We are thrilled to see 172 of our partner stores benefiting from this initiative, which has already generated significant sales. The demand proves that customers want seamless access to National Lottery products from their trusted local stores.

“At Snappy Shopper, we are committed to championing independent retailers, helping them thrive in an increasingly digital marketplace while continuing to serve their communities.”

This marks the latest UK retail push from Allwyn. IIn recent weeks, the firm has stepped into UK supermarket territory for the first time, rolling out its National Lottery scratchcards across Asda retail locations.

The latest scratchcard technology incorporates advanced features developed by Scientific Games, including an automated scratchcard dispensing unit fitted with a 40-inch digital display for customers and a touch screen terminal intended for store staff.
