GamCare has announced it will end its Safer Gambling Standard services by the close of this year.
Launched in 2019, this UKAS-accredited certification has acted as an independent quality standard, assessing the efforts of gambling companies to protect people from gambling harm.
After an internal review in December 2023, GamCare’s Board decided to transfer the standard’s activities to an external organization. However, despite discussions, no suitable organization has been found, leading GamCare to fully suspend the Safer Gambling Standard.
GamCare emphasised that its commitment to reducing gambling harm remains strong. All other services, including its 24/7 National Gambling Helpline, will continue into the new year.
“Our core focus remains on delivering high-quality, accessible support to the thousands who seek our help each year—whether they are struggling with gambling or affected by someone else’s gambling,” the organization stated.
