IGT to upgrade NCEL with new 10-year deal

IGT Plc (IGT) has announced a 10-year contract extension with the North Carolina Education Lottery (NCEL).

The extension will begin on 1st July 2027, continuing until June 2037, further cementing a relationship that began in 2006 when the NCEL first launched.

Under this new agreement, IGT will deploy advanced technology to enhance the lottery’s operations, including its high-performing Aurora™ central system, part of IGT’s innovative OMNIA™ solution.

The agreement also includes the installation of 8,500 Retailer Pro S2 terminals, 500 GameTouch™ 28 self-service vending machines, 2,000 new lottery play centres, 4,000 jackpot signs, and a dual cellular communication network. IGT will also upgrade NCEL’s back-office applications with its Wizard suite, which includes tools to streamline lottery operations.

NCEL’s CEO, Mark Michalko, praised the partnership, noting the strong relationship IGT and NCEL have built over the past 18 years. He highlighted that this collaboration has been a key factor in the lottery’s consistent growth, which now raises over $1 billion annually for public education in North Carolina.

“Supporting public education is our mission, and we now raise more than $1 billion a year for our state,” said Michalko. “The new technology that IGT will provide will help the lottery continue to responsibly increase sales and our contributions to North Carolina.”

IGT is a leading provider of gaming technology worldwide, offering services to 26 U.S. lotteries and several of the world’s largest lotteries.

Jay Gendron, IGT’s Chief Operating Officer for Global Lottery, expressed his enthusiasm for continuing the partnership.

“The NCEL is among the top 10 most successful lotteries in the U.S., and IGT is excited to upgrade its retail technology with our high-performing solutions, and help it drive sales growth,” said Gendron. He emphasised that IGT’s advanced technology would benefit the NCEL’s players, retail partners, and the educational causes it supports.

The contract extension highlights IGT’s commitment to innovation and responsible gaming, ensuring that the NCEL will continue to operate efficiently while maximising its contribution to the state’s educational programmes.
