Spelinspektionen Sweden’s Gambling Inspectorate has confirmed the appointment of Kristina Geiger as the head of a “new department for operational support”.
Geiger joins the Inspectorate’s senior management team, previously holding the position of Treasurer at the Statens Historiska Museum from 2021 to 2023.
A seasoned member of Sweden’s civil service, Geiger has held various senior management roles and led departmental support for the Swedish Competition Authority, the Karolinska Institute, and the Government Office.
Her extensive experience also includes her time as a ‘national expert’ for the European Commission (EC).
Starting from 1 July, Spelinspektionen has been endowed with a host of new regulatory powers to tackle unlicensed gambling activities.
Significantly, the inspectorate will now be capable of requesting direct information from payment service providers (PSPs) regarding transactional data.
This will allow Spelinspektionen to impose direct payment blocks on PSPs if they determine that these systems have been exploited to carry out transactions with unlicensed businesses.
Further regulatory progress saw the government agree to raise the Inspectorate’s operating budget by SEK 2.4m (€200,000), which will be allocated towards enhancing its operational resources.

Upon joining the Inspectorate, Geiger commented, “I am eager to commence my journey with the Gambling Inspectorate, given the importance of the authority’s mission and the trust placed in me to lead the department for operational support.”
