The anticipation surrounding the current Mega Millions jackpot has resulted in increased website traffic for theLotter Texas as the wait for a winner rumbles on.

Last weekend’s failure to find a winning ticket means the jackpot now stands at $1.1bn, making it the third-largest in Mega Millions history and the sixth-biggest jackpot in US history.

It’s the fourth occasion in just over four years that the Mega Millions jackpot has topped $1bn.

The next draw – the 25th in this current run which started in October – is scheduled for Tuesday, January 10, and the prize money could grow upwards to $1.5bn if no winner is found.

Lottery retailers reported unprecedented levels of demand last summer as the Mega Millions jackpot reached $1.3bn, and the prize money on offer is once again driving players on.

theLotter Texas, which operates the state’s premier online lottery ticket purchasing service, has recently noted a surge in its website traffic.

Meanwhile, Pat McDonald, the Ohio Lottery Director and Lead Director of the Mega Millions Consortium, has reminded players over the importance of gambling responsibly.

He said: “Mega Millions has just reached the $1bn mark again. It’s especially nice to see the jackpot grow throughout the holidays and into the new year.

“As the jackpot grows, we encourage our players to keep within their entertainment budget and enjoy this jackpot run right along with us.”
