Numerous attempts have been made to bring gaming to the Yellowhammer state to no avail, with it traditionally being one of the strictest states when it comes to gambling.

However, under new plans made by Senator Albritton, a lottery named the ‘Alabama Education Lottery’ could be introduced under the new proposals, alongside a Gaming Enforcement Division and Commission to enforce the laws.

Attempting to garner support for the proposals, Albritton claimed that “more than 99% of lottery revenues deposited to the Alabama Education Lottery Trust Fund would be used for creation and issuance of scholarships.”

Aside from a state lottery, the proposals aim to bring table games and casinos to Alabama, with the potential for five single licenses being put forward.

Under the plans, the sites in line for a casino license would be Greenetrack in Greene County, Birmingham Race Course in Jefferson County, Victoryland in Macon County and Mobile County Greyhound Racing facility in Mobile County.

The fifth licensed location would be contested between Dekalb or Jackson County, subject to negotiations between the Governor and the Porch Band of Creek Indians.
