The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission (MLGCC) is set to allow sports betting in the three operational casinos in the state following an initial review.

As reported by Yahoo Finance, The Horseshoe Casino in Baltimore, Live! Casino & Hotel in Hanover and MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill cleared the first phase of the process for sports wagering licenses conducted by the regulatory body for the state’s gambling operators.

Following the approval from the initial review, the casinos’ application will now go before the Sports Wagering Application Review Commission. If the application progresses any further, the MLGCC will complete one final check before issuing the licenses for sports betting.

Live! Casino & Hotel has opened a sports-themed lounge in preparation for its application approval, while MGM plans to open a venue for sports betting purposes later this month.

Meanwhile, the Horseshoe Casino is renovating its first floor to create “an immersive entertainment environment” that includes sports betting facilities amongst other gaming equipment.

MLGCC expects to issue the licenses later this autumn ahead of a launch of sports betting in ‘late fall or early winter.’

“We’re pleased to have these three applicants approved and move them along to the SWARC,” Maryland Lottery Director John Martin said in a statement.

“Our team is diligently implementing the sports wagering law, and we’re one step closer to the first in-person wagers, which we hope will take place by late fall.”
