September 5 will see the province of San Juan enter its second phase of mandatory social confinement, which will allow the reopening of certain commercial sectors, such as lottery agencies.

With this being said, the local regional government has clarified that although lottery agencies will once again be opening for public use, other facilities such as casinos and bingo halls will not yet be allowed to operate.

This follows on from the news in early July that saw Andrés Mercado, the delegate of the Gaming Workers Union (Aleara), reveal that the provincial casinos had obtained an official protocol to gradually reopen their doors only for the government to reverse the decision due to the growth of coronavirus cases nationwide mere days later.

At the time, the protocols which would have allowed for the opening of casinos would have seen only the operation of slot machines and the entry of 10 people per room allowed. In addition to this, operators would have been required by law to complete temperature control checks for both the public and staff, while also adhering to social distancing measures when in line.

As a result of lottery agencies now being given the all clear in terms of reopening their sectors, lottery establishments will now need to follow these exact guidelines. However as previously alluded to, other gaming halls will have to wait for a new approval of protocols and confinement phase to reopen their doors.
