GambleAware group to further gambling-related risk research

GambleAware is set to form a ‘lived experience group’ to represent those affected by gambling-related harms and addiction in support of the UK’s National Gambling Treatment Service.

The group, which will help to further develop the research of treatment support initiatives, will provide real-life experiences on gambling-related risks, triggers, disorders and stigmas.

GambleAware will form a core advisory group which will require participants to be abstinent from gambling. However, the Charity will maintain a wider advisory group which will accommodate others who may not be abstinent.

The lived experience group will meet online every month, mainly via either Zoom or Microsoft Teams apps, as well as in-person once per quarter in Birmingham at a set location.

Applicants who would like to contribute to the service are required to contact  [email protected] for more information,  registering their interest in joining the group before 31st July 2020.

Last June, the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) announced that it had formed its own ‘Experts by Experience Group’, broadening its advice and recommendations by individuals who had ‘livid the experience’ of problem gambling.

Forming its undisclosed group, the UKGC stated that its guidance would provide valuable insights in how the Commission interprets its research panels, consultations and further customer care related matters.
