With the last draw from the National Lottery in Panama having taken place almost two months ago, the country has still to identify any official plans to resume operations.

National Lottery Director Gloriela del Río recently confirmed that work is ongoing to get the situation moving as the sector is still looking for some assistance to face the challenges arising from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Ibero-American Lottery and Betting Corporation (CIBELAE), meanwhile, said that “they’re preparing to adopt all changes that must be made in terms of customer service, product delivery and return processes, payment of prizes, human resources and vendors.”

In addition, the National Lottery is innovating in technological processes to “face all new changes.” The lottery is also adapting its offices in order to safeguard the health of its employees.

However, different spokespersons have urged del Río to provide information about the measures they’re carrying out.

Fernando González, Secretary of Inspection of the Panamanian Bill Walkers Union, said: “We need information from the Lottery on how this reopening will happen.”

According to local media, the secretary commented that a lot of vendors haven’t received help from the government, which has created a financing plan to pay for services, but can only be accessed by casino owners.

“We need to improve the communication between the Lottery and the agencies. We don’t know anything. No information is published on social networks either,” added Gonzalez.
