The Minnesota Lottery is targeting an upgrade of its technology infrastructure via a seven-year deal with B2B firm Scientific Games.

Terms of the deal will focus around a total replacement of the Minnesota Lottery’s legacy tech system, across both retail and online networks.

The duo have detailed an objective of creating an integrated framework of technologies, apps and services to drive growth and sales performance for the lottery.

“We took an innovative approach to selecting technology that would pave the way to the future and responsibly grow our contributions to programs that positively impact the lives of Minnesotans,” said Adam Prock, Executive Director of the Minnesota Lottery.

“We were seeking modern technology and a solution focused on service and partnership. Scientific Games was aligned with our vision for growth.”

The Minnesota Lottery is aiming to maintain its status as a major fundraiser in the Midwestern state, having generated more than $4bn (£2.95bn) for state programmes since its launch in 1990.

Funds derived from lottery ticket sales are diverted to various programmes including environmental, education, public safety, health and human services initiatives.

Revenue is also directed to problem gambling prevention and treatment – Minnesota being one of the some 40 US states to have launched a private betting and gaming market.

For Scientific Games, the deal further extends its reach in the US lottery space, where it works with many state lotteries such as the Delaware Lottery and Florida Lottery, to name the two subjects of its most recent deals.

“Scientific Games looks forward to serving the Minnesota Lottery with the highest standards of excellence and all the flexibility a cloud-based ecosystem has to offer,” said John Schulz, President of Americas and Global Instant Products for Scientific Games.

“A systems conversion requires a strong partnership and months of cooperation and collaboration. We will work closely with the Minnesota Lottery’s team to deliver another successful go-live, moving the Lottery into a sustainable future.”
