The Global Lottery Monitoring System (GLMS) has confirmed the appointment of Luca Esposito as its new General Secretary.

Esposito currently serves as the Executive Director of the World Lottery Association – a role he will continue to hold – and received the backing of his employer as well as European Lotteries to take up the role at GLMS.

GLMS stated that Esposito has gone through a rigorous due diligence process before taking on the role, but now holds the full backing of the Executive Committees of the WLA, EL and GLMS, as well as partners and members of those organisations.

The monitoring body maintained that, even though Esposito will remain in his role at WLA, it remains an independent organisation and having Esposito perform both roles will provide a continuation ‘to the natural synergies between GLMS and the global lottery community including WLA and EL’.

Ludovico Calvi, GLMS President, commented: “We are extremely happy to welcome Luca in our team. Every single day there is a new incident of sport competition manipulation reported, this has been particularly true since the outbreak of the pandemic.

“The sports ecosystem has never been so vulnerable as today and this makes Match Fixing one the greatest problem in modern sport.

“Luca’s understanding of the gaming industry, global associations and their needs, and his hands-on knowledge in the area of sports integrity will be a tremendous asset driving the success of GLMS in the titanic fight against Match Fixing and to protect Sports Integrity worldwide.”
