The lotteries’ May figures are up 3.4% year-on-year (May 2020: ¥29.22bn). They’re also an improvement on April’s revenue of ¥29.1bn.

Welfare Lottery ticket sales totalled ¥11.32bn in May, up slightly from what was achieved by the lottery during the previous month (April: ¥11.16bn).

Meanwhile, the Sports Lottery earned sales of ¥18.88bn, another improvement by the lottery on April’s numbers (¥17.94bn).

MOF data noted that in the first five months, lottery sales amounted to ¥143.83bn, broken down into ¥56.48bn from the Welfare Lottery, and ¥87.35bn from the Sports Lottery.

The data also showed that sales in the provinces of Guangdong, Henan and Sichuan posted relatively high growth in May.

China’s lottery management rules state that money from ticket sales is to be used for administrative expenses, public welfare projects and prize winnings.
