Under the leadership of General Administrator Luis Maisichell Dicent, the Lotería Nacional of the Dominican Republic, its national lottery, has managed to overcome a $2.9m deficit and register a $6.08m surplus.

The authorities believe that they reversed the situation thanks to a strong control on expenses and new strategies to attract more revenue.

According to the Lotería, this new management campaign is based on ‘saving, transparency and efficiency of the resources, adopting measures to get the institution out of the stagnation it had been for more than 20 years’.

To exemplify those efforts, they highlighted the payment of royalties and benefits without borrowing money. “Even the loan that had been requested by previous authorities was cancelled,” they added.

Furthermore, the authorities stressed that they’ve already taken several steps to improve and make the processes more transparent: “These transformations are focused on creating an institution that collects revenue, a self-sustaining one and capable of providing financial resources to the Government.”

The lottery is also working with the Ministry of Finance to join the Financial Management Information System (SIGEF), to digitise all transparency and financial processes.

“Following instructions from President Luis Abinader, we are immersed in this process of efficiency, reviewing the entire institutional structure and expenses. Every peso generated will really be invested to benefit the Dominican people,” added Maisichell Dicent.
