The Puerto Rico Department of Treasury (DH) has announced the start of a new campaign to highlight the benefits from Loterías de Puerto Rico.

The department seeks to promote the social and economic benefits generated through the sale of lottery tickets and electronic gaming.

“Since the Lotería Tradicional’s creation in 1947 and the Lotería Electrónica in 1989, in addition to bringing joy and achieving dreams, they have also been key to subsidize important programs, mainly in health and education areas,” said DH Secretary Francisco Parés Alicea.

“We want citizens to be aware of everything that happens when we buy a [winning] ticket or play electronic lotteries.”

Parés Alicea also commented that the lottery and Governor Pedro Pierlusi’s goal is to communicate the destination of the funds and their impact.

He said: “We want to connect people with what these contributions represent. The help [it brings to the economy] is made through sales commissions to businesses and street vendors, payment of prizes and the funds that are destined to public work projects.”

Lorna Huertas, Assistant Secretary of the Negociado de las Loterías, explained that they want to highlight the constant support of the sales force to continue contributing to the socio-economic development of Puerto Rico.

Additionally, she revealed that Loterías has paid around $100m in commissions to their vendors, and approximately $556m in prizes to players.

“One of the pillars of our strategies is to open internal and external communication channels. We want to hear first-hand the experiences of our team of sales agents and the suggestions they have to help us strengthen the lotteries, which are their source of income,” she said.
