Codere has become the first casino and sports betting operator to obtain approval for its Online Gaming Platform Implementation Program from its local regulator Lotería de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires (LOTBA).

The project includes the implementation and execution plans for the company in the capital city of Argentina.

The local team, along with the Platforms area and the online division of the Spanish company, started developing the project back in February, when LOTBA opened the online gambling licencing process. It presented the proposal at the beginning of May.

The company said: “For Codere, it’s especially important to have achieved this first milestone to obtain the license in the city of Buenos Aires, one of the main jurisdictions and with great potential in the country, being the first company to do so out of all the ones that have applied.”

Bernardo Chena, regional manager of Codere Latinoamérica, added: “This shows the strength of the group, the quality of its offering and the viability of Codere’s online expansion project in the region.”

According to the company, LOTBA approval is the necessary step to execute the online business strategy in Latin America, which aims to position Codere as the leader in the region.

Now, the company will need to carry out the operational tasks to start up its systems, developments and to integrate its platform, which will lead to the commercialisation and distribution of its online games.

Currently, Codere is the main operator of gambling halls in the province of Buenos Aires, where it operates 13 facilities and around 6,800 slot machines.
